What is a fibula
Since ancient times the fibula was used as a practical and decorative object which served to fasten clothes. There are hundreds of different types, shapes and sizes of fibulae depending on the historical period, as well as their cultural or geographical affiliation.
Mostly, they were made out of bronze, rarely of precious metals. When buttons were developed in the Middle Ages, fibulae stopped being used, but their heir, the safety pin, is still in use today.
