The battle of Krk

The purpose of the sea battle of 49 B. C. which was fought in the area around Krk was not domination over the Kvarner and the Adriatic - it was fought for the domination over Italy, Rome and the entire Roman Empire.
This was just one of the episodes of the Civil War led between the Roman generals Gaius Julius Caesar and Gneius Pompey for the power over Rome.
